The Board of Student Advisers at Harvard Law School has elected Isabel Broer, ’16, as its president for the 2015-16 year. Broer succeeds Claire Johnson, ’15.
“Every single HLS student interacts with the Board of Student Advisers at some point during his or her academic career, and with that responsibility comes enormous opportunity,” said Johnson. “Isabel is passionately committed to enriching the HLS experience, and the incoming class of 2018 will benefit tremendously from her leadership. This organization could not be in more capable hands.”
Amanda Levine, Elizabeth Curran, and Jacob Hanna, all ’16, were elected to serve as the organization’s vice presidents.
For more than one hundred years, the Board of Students Advisers has played several significant roles on campus. Its members serve as teaching assistants in the First-Year Legal Research and Writing program and as mentors to all 1Ls. The Board is also runs the Ames Moot Court Competition. The 43 members of this year’s Board include, among others, several finalists and semi-finalists from the Ames Moot Court Competition, various leaders of student practice organizations and journals, Parody stars, and undefeated intramural athletes.
“I am thrilled to work alongside the entire Board as we strive to make Harvard Law School a more inclusive community, one that values the experiences and contributions of every student,” said Broer. “Our members reflect the fact that there is no single ‘right’ way to do law school, and we are eager to continue our work in encouraging 1Ls to pursue their unique goals in their time on campus.”
A graduate of Columbia University, Broer worked as a math teacher and school administrator in Denver, Colorado before matriculating at Harvard Law School. She intends to pursue a career as a state government lawyer.
