Students working in the Harvard Law School Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation launched a new training series at the United States Conference on AIDS in Chicago last month.
The trainings are part of a new initiative that the Center is implementing to help state government officials, health and social service providers and advocates prepare for healthcare reform (as created in the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act). The training initiative, which will be conducted in states across the United States throughout 2011-12, focuses on four broad areas: maximizing opportunities available through health care reform; developing a bridge to health care reform implementation in 2014; protecting and promoting effective state Medicaid programs; and options for addressing ongoing budget deficits.
At the United States Conference on AIDS, Jennifer Haney ’12 and Allison Canton ’11 co-presented trainings on opportunities available to states to develop health reforms now, as a bridge to full healthcare reform implementation in 2014 for persons living with chronic health conditions. Haney and Canton will continue to work on the new initiative throughout the semester, developing additional training materials based on feedback from conference attendees and other national partners.
