2008 saw an extraordinary round of faculty appointments at Harvard Law School, with the announcement of 14 new additions. They are:

Anne Alstott, Professor Law, an expert on tax law and social welfare.

I. Glenn Cohen ’03, Assistant Professor of Law,scholar in bioethics and biotechnology.

John Goldberg, Professor of Law, an expert in tort law, tort theory and political philosophy.

Wendy Jacobs ’81, Assistant Clinical Professor of Law and Director, Environmental Law and Policy Clinic.

Michael J. Klarman, Professor of Law, a scholar in constitutional law, history and race.

Phillip Malone, Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Cyberlaw Clinic of the Berkman Center for Internet and Society. Malone is an expert on cyberlaw, technology in litigation, and new media.

Ashish Nanda, Professor of Practice and Research Director, Center for Law and the Professions. Nanda focuses on law firms and other professional service organizations.

John Palfrey ’01, Professor of Law and Vice Dean, Library and Information Resources. Palfrey is an expert on Internet law, intellectual property and youth and new media.

Benjamin Roin ’05, Assistant Professor of Patent Law, scholar in bioethics and biotechnology.

Benjamin Sachs, Assistant Professor of Law, expert on labor and workplace law.

Cass R. Sunstein ’78, Professor of Law and Faculty Director of the new Program on Risk Regulation. He is an expert on constitutional law and theory, administrative law and policy and behavioral economics and law.

Jonathan Zittrain ’95, Professor of Law, Faculty Co-Director, Berkman Center for Internet and Society. Expert on cyberlaw and intellectual property.

Lawrence Lessig, currently on the faculty at Stanford Law School, has been appointed Professor of Law at HLS, and will arrive in the summer of 2009. An acclaimed expert in constitutional law, cyberlaw and intellectual property, Lessig will also be the new faculty director of Harvard University’s Edmond J. Safra Foundation Center for Ethics.

Henry E. Smith, currently the Fred A. Johnston Professor of Property and Environmental Law at YaleLaw School, will join the faculty as a Professor of Law in January 2009.  He is an expert in property, intellectual property, natural resources and taxation.
