Harvard Law School Professor Robert H. Sitkoff has been named one of Lawyers Weekly’s up and coming lawyers of 2007. A leading expert in trusts and estates, Sitkoff joined the HLS faculty this year.
In the article, Sitkoff recalled growing up and learning legal lingo from his father, who is now a retired trusts and estates lawyer. When he began law school at the University of Chicago, his affinity for trusts and estates only flourished.
“When I took the trusts and estates class, it was like the sky fell — it was material that was intuitive and familiar,” he said.
Now at HLS, he will continue his groundbreaking scholarship in the trusts and estates field. His academic work has been cited as some of the most important in the country by leading legal practitioners, including Judge Richard Posner ’62, who referred to Sitkoff’s “excellent academic work.” Sitkoff clerked for Posner after law school.
Sitkoff is the co-author of the leading trusts and estates casebook, “Wills, Trusts and Estates,” and he is currently co-writing a book that will be published by the Yale University Press on the effect of recent changes in trust law on the practice of trust law. Sitkoff’s previous work has been published or is forthcoming in leading journals such as the Yale Law Journal, Columbia Law Review, and Journal of Law and Economics.
Prior to joining the HLS faculty, Sitkoff taught at NYU. He won teaching honors in 2001 and 2002 at the Northwestern University School of Law, where he taught prior to joining NYU, and in 2007 at NYU. He holds a B.A. with distinction from the University of Virginia and a J.D. with high honors from the University of Chicago, where he was selected by the faculty as the outstanding graduate in law and economics in his class.
