Video: Will China Save the Planet?

The Harvard Law School Library recently hosted leading China environmental expert Barbara Finamore ’80 for a book talk discussion on her latest release, “Will China Save the Planet?” The event was part of an ongoing series of talks by the Library that highlight the scholarship of faculty and alumni, and other invited authors and scholars.

China, the world’s largest carbon emitter, is leading a global clean energy revolution, phasing out coal consumption and leading the development of a global system of green finance. But as Finamore explains, saving our planet from “environmental catastrophe” is anything but easy.

Finamore is a senior attorney and Asia senior strategic director at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). She has over three decades of experience in environmental law and energy policy, with a focus on China for twenty-five years. In 1996, she founded NRDC’s China Program, the first clean energy program to be launched by an international NGO.

This event was co-sponsored by the HLS Library, East Asian Legal Studies, the HLS Environmental Law Society, and the Harvard-China Project.
